Emeralds at the Met

Emeralds have been adored for thousands of years with kings, queens, emperors, and empresses wearing them. Cleopatra is the most famous historical figure to love emeralds, and she loved them so much that she had her own mine, but I think Priyanka Chopra Jonas, along with Elizabeth Taylor, has become another famous emerald wearer as she stole the show wearing with emeralds at the Met Gala!

What was she wearing? Bulgari created an incredible necklace with a 241.04ct octagonal shaped emerald with more emerald and diamond accents surrounding it and going up. She also wore an emerald and diamond ring from Bulgari’s Polychroma collection. She looked beautiful in green! 

Something you may not be aware of is that emeralds are routinely treated with oil to enhance their appearance. Due to the nature of emeralds, they have a lot of inclusions that can both interfere with beauty and durability. Since emeralds were first discovered, they have been treated this way, so oiling is not a new practice.  With that being said, when you take it to a jeweler to clean or repair, your emerald needs to be treated different than a diamond.
