How I Find the Perfect Diamond for My Clients

At first glance, most diamonds can look the same, but spend a little time with them, and you’ll quickly realize there is a world of difference.
While I could dive deep into full Gemologist mode, I want to walk you through my real, practical process for selecting a diamond, the same one I use for my clients every day.
Because here’s the truth:
The center diamond is what you’ll be looking at for years to come. You deserve to love it every single time you glance at your hand.

Why Seeing Multiple Diamonds Matters
I almost never evaluate just one diamond.
Instead, I bring in multiple options at once so I can compare them side-by-side. On paper or videos, many diamonds look incredible. But in real life? Not always.
Think of it like online dating:
The photos and the messages might seem perfect, but the in-person chemistry tells the real story.
Diamonds are no different.
Step 1: The Macro View (How It Actually Looks)
Before diving into technical details, I start with what matters most – how the diamond looks in real life.
I place the diamond on my hand and walk around my studio, viewing them in different lighting:
· Bright, natural sunlight
· Indoor lighting
· Shadows
As I tilt my hand, I am watching closely for:
· How the light reflects and sparkles
· Any dull or dark areas (shadows that shouldn’t be there)
· Subtle color differences (does one look warmer or cooler?)
This is all about real world beauty because that’s what you’ll see every day.
Step 2: The Micro View (What’s Beneath the Surface)
Next, I take a closer look, literally!
Using a microscope, I examine each diamond in detail, checking for:
· Inclusions (internal characteristics)
· Differences in cut quality
· Fluorescence
· Laser inscriptions
I also view the diamond grading reports to understand how each stone is classified.
This step helps me understand why a diamond looks the way it does, and whether the quality matches the appearance.
Step 3: Finding the Best Value
Now comes the part people think is the most important, but its actually third for a reason. Price.
I compare:
· What I saw with my eyes (macro view)
· What I found under magnification (micro view)
· The cost of each diamond
Here is something that might surprise you:
The most expensive diamond is not always the best choice.
Sometimes, a slightly lower-graded diamond:
· Looks brighter
· Faces up larger
· Sparkles more beautifully
And often, it offers better overall value.
My goal isn’t to find the “highest grade,” it’s to find the most beautiful diamond for you.
Step 4: Presenting the Final Options
Once I’ve narrowed it down, its your turn (but, you aren’t alone)!
I’ll walk you through:
· The diamonds I selected
· What I observed
· The pros and trade-offs of each option
You’ll see them in-person, ask questions, and get my honest recommendations based on your priorities, whether that is size, sparkle, budget, or all three.
The Bottom Line
Choosing a diamond isn’t just about specs on paper, its about how it looks, feels, and connects with you.
My process is designed to cut through the noise and focus on what really matters:
· Beauty in real life
· Honest evaluation
· Smart value
At the end of the day, the goal is simple:
