Sparkling Summer Reads

If you don’t know already, I LOVE reading books! Since the official start to summer begins on the 21st, I thought I’d give you a few summer reading suggestions. Two of them I have read, and the other two I am putting on my list!

· Summer at Tiffany by Marjorie Hart: This book is the memoire of Marjorie Hart who spent the summer of 1945 working at Tiffany in New York City with her best friend, Marty Garrett. They were the first women allowed on the sales floor of this prestigious jeweler, not as sales women but as runners between the salesmen and the repair department. They danced at night clubs, saw Judy Garland’s visit to Tiffany, and fell in love with sailors. This was a great read!

· A Murder is Forever by Rob Bates: This murder mystery takes place downtown New York City in the diamond district. What I loved about this book is that it takes you behind the scenes to how multi-million dollar business is still done with handshake. The author, Rob Bates, is actually someone I have met during my jewelry travels, as he is the News Director at JCK Magazine which is a well-known publication in the jewelry industry.

· The Necklace by Claire McMillan: The premise of this book is that the main character, Nell, is left a beautiful and expensive necklace from her great-aunt who recently passed away. She has to navigate jealous relatives, hidden family history from the 1920’s, and a mysterious provenance to the necklace. I have not read it yet, but it looks good!

· The Russian Pink by Matthew Hart: Investigator for the Treasury Department and former CIA agent, Alex Turner, delves in the mystery of the “Russian Pink” diamond that has shown up on the neck of a popular presidential candidate. The plot thickens as he walks the line between legal and illegal tactics and a Russian double agent betrayal. I get the feeling this is a fast-paced, thrilling caper! It is also going on my list!

I know that some of you might be telling yourself you are too busy to read, but here is your permission slip to take time out for yourself and read! Studies show that reading prevents cognitive decline, reduces stress, and aides in sleep, amongst other things. I’d love to know what you are reading even if it is not one of the above mentioned!
