How often Should I Have My Jewelry Checked

The saying is “a diamond is forever,” but that doesn’t mean your jewelry is indestructible!  Fine jewelry is a lot like a vehicle, in that it needs regular maintenance to keep it healthy for the long haul.  Rings, especially, get the brunt of damage and dirt because we use our hands for everything.  Here are some tips.

·       Get your jewelry checked and cleaned by a professional at least two times a year. We don’t always realize the damage that is done to our jewelry, and it can be hard to see with your naked eye.

·       Make it easy on yourself by choosing two significant months that are on opposite ends of the year. For instance, December and the month of your anniversary or birthday.  Celebrate yourself or relationship with sparkly clean jewelry!

·       You can clean your ring every day at home, if you’d like, with jewelry cleaner from your local jeweler.

·       Don’t forget your earrings! Earrings can collect ear gunk and dirt/oils from your hands as you touch them to take off and on. Or, just to check to make sure they are still there!

·       Gross fact. Just because you wash your hands, it doesn’t mean your jewelry is disinfected.  The heat and soap from a jeweler’s ultrasonic will clean all the hard to reach spots and disinfect it.
