Reading is a Gem

Summer is officially in full swing with warm weather, vacations by the ocean, and ice cream! If you are like me, reading is an essential part of summer, well, it’s essential all year long, but reading outside by the water is a treat this time of year.  Here are some gems I have read this year!

·       Assassin’s Blade Series by Sarah J. Maas: I was hesitant to read this series, but it did not disappoint!  This is a fantasy adventure story with characters who evolve and a story that is full of twists and turns. I am sorry it is over.  I highly recommend!

·       Saturday Night Ghost Club by Craig Davidson: This story captured me in by the title because I love ghost stories, but it is really a coming-of-age story with a character who is trying to hold onto the past and needs an adventure to move him forward.  Don’t get intimidated by the ghost story part, it isn’t scary!

·       Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen: This is a magical realism book with a touch of romance. Set in a sleepy town in North Carolina, it has all the southern charm of a family trying to figure out life together along with having special gifts.

·       How to Solve Your Own Murder by Kristen Perrin: This was such a fun murder mystery that takes place in a quaint English village! A woman knows that she will be murdered her whole life, and then it actually happens. She has left her great-niece clues as to who did it in order to keep her fortune.   

·       Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer: If you are a fan of Twilight, this book takes on the point of view of Edward, instead of Bella, and tells the same story. So good!!

These are just a fraction of the books that have kept me engrossed this past year, and I hope you find a new “gem” in my booklist!
