Why, yes, you read that title correctly! June has three birthstone options to choose from, which makes is great if you don’t like one of them. Here they are:
Pearl: Pearl is the one most of us think of when it comes to June’s birthstone. This gemstone is the only gemstone created by an animal and not the earth. Pearl comes in various colors and shapes, with my favorite being black pearls and baroque (pearls in odd shapes).

Alexandrite: Alexandrite is a color-change gemstone first discovered in the Ural Mountains of Russia in the 1830’s. It is called “emerald by day and ruby by night” because of the two distinctive colors when under different light sources. While not all alexandrite is of the highest quality and highest color change, they are incredible to witness!

Moonstone: Moonstone is an intriguing gemstone with a phenomenon called adularescence where light rolls across the gemstone which gives it a glowing, ethereal look. It is cut in a cabochon style meaning there is a flat bottom and round top because its properties don’t allow for it to be faceted like other gemstones. Moonstone is the mineral orthoclase feldspar but was named moonstone because people thought it was moonbeams trapped on earth.
