Can I Wear my Rings While Working Out

Living in California, we tend to work out all year long.  While I am all about wearing your jewelry most places, there are some activities that can be harmful to you and your rings, like working out.  Here are some ways your rings will get damaged:

ree

·       Metal Gouging: Lifting weights or handling metal work out equipment will scratch and gouge the bottoms of your rings.

·       Stone Setting and Breakage: Hitting your ring against solid metal surfaces, like holding weights or handling metal equipment, will break your gemstones and the metal holding them in place.  Yes, diamonds are one of the hardest minerals, but they can be damaged from a strong substance, especially, when there is some sort of force. And, damaging the prongs holding a gemstone in place will cause it to fall out, and possibly, lose that gemstone.

·       Pressure and Force: In the case of kick boxing or regular boxing, the force of hitting your ring from inside the glove will cause damage, possibly even breaking your gemstones.

·       Hand Damage: Whether you are working out in a gym or rock climbing, the potential to have your ring catch on something can not only damage your ring, but damage your hand and/or fingers.

·       Swelling: Doing any type of exercise, including “light” activities, like walking and running, your hands will swell due to the blood rushing to them. Your rings can become very uncomfortable, and you may not be able to get them off.

I understand the desire to wear your rings all the time, but paying for the damage to your rings, and/or potentially losing a gemstone may not make it worth it.
